Let's Walk to Mexico!
Maumee Watershed has formed a walking team with the goal of walking the distance to Monterrey MX. A mere 1700 miles (approx.) from the district office. If we were to actually walk to MX, Google Maps say, it would take 23 days to complete a one way trip by walking. Join our team to meet and exceed this distance for miles walked in the MW District. Click here to join our team. Then click Join.
Our team name is: MWD Walking 2 Mexico
To encourage awareness of global health issues, especially in our partnerships, we wanted to invite you to participate in a common challenge. We will accomplish our goal together, growing, learning and staying healthy along the way. Click here for more information.

Connecting Churches to Their Neighbors
Jesus was constantly on the move throughout his life. Jesus welcomed all and taught his disciples to do the same. A new tool is available to assist churches in reaching their neighbors and applying their faith in daily life!
Immigrant Welcoming Congregations is a year-long covenant journey equipping churches to allow their faith in Jesus Christ to empower them to create incarnational friendship with their neighbors. Along the way, churches will receive ideas and guidance so that through you, God's reign on earth can become a reality in your community now.
Rev. Marcus Atha expressed his enthusiasm for this new project. "Through prayer, education, and building relationships, our congregations will welcome immigrants: lifting them up, sharing their stories, offering them hospitality and offering them support. By embracing the gift of diversity we hope to bring that welcoming spirit to the rest of our community." Rev. Atha is District Superintendent of the Capitol Area North district.
Informational retreats will be held Thursday, March 1st and Saturday, March 24th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stonybrook United Methodist Church. Online registration is now open at the conference website.

Introducing Jesus' Disciples to Your Grandchildren
Reverend Swaisgood will be leading a delightful series of Bible lessons on the life and personalities of Jesus' twelve disciples. While there are many books on this topic, Pastor Larry will be introducing these men in such simple terms that parents and grandparents who attend will be able to introduce these disciples to children between the ages of 3 to 13. The lessons will be very informative and interesting to adults, but will also include a coloring page for the children to color and a simple reading that could be used as a bedtime story.
These ten Bible lessons will be offered on Thursday evenings, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the Memorial Lounge, starting January 26. They continue through March 29th.
All classes will be held at: Trilby United Methodist Church

Small Membership Training - February 25, 2012

Great for PPR members, Church Council members, along with their pastor!
The Town & Rural Resource Program (TARRP) is excited to be working with Dr. John S. Savage again. This workshop is designed to help churches find a way to move forward. So often past conflicts, hurts, and in-decision prevent churches from moving forward. Registration deadline Febuary 16, 2012.
Whether it is a new missional outreach, change in service times, style, or a building project, members and pastors are often uncertain what is holding them back. Change opens up wounds of the past that may need healing. Often the newer members, or the pastor, get the back-lash. Jesus calls us to healing and wholeness so we can be a transformation presence in our world.

The Society of St. Andrew invites your congregation to participate in our 2012 Lenten devotion and giving program, "Living Proof". In keeping with the traditions of Lent, the Society of St. Andrew invites your congregation to participate in a program of spiritual reflection, prayer, and giving. SoSA's Lenten devotion program challenges the reader to take seriously the scriptural injunctions to care for the poor, while also providing an opportunity to feed our hungry neighbors. FLOOD/CLEANING BUCKET Appeal
The recent disasters have diminished the stock of flood buckets. The Conference Disaster Response Team would like to issue a flood/cleaning bucket appeal, but in a different way than in the past.
By storing the buckets locally at 5 locations in our district. Four churches and the district office have volunteered to store up to 50 buckets on site.
We need your help to fill the need.
These supplies enable people to begin the overwhelming job of cleaning up after a flood or hurricane.

TURN OFF THE NOISE!
Taize Service at Maumee United Methodist to Focus on Peace during 2012
The monthly Taize Service will focus our scriptures and prayer toward peace throughout 2012. Taize features meditation and scripture that brings personal peace. It was developed to unite Christians so that the hatred that caused the Holocaust would not survive. The nightly news proves that hasn’t happened yet. This world needs prayer!. Join us on the second Sunday of each month in the chapel at 7pm.
Maumee United Methodist Taize service is held twice a month at 7PM. It is a time to listen and contemplate the scriptures. There are three periods of silence to allow us to wait and listen for God. The music and structure was developed by the Taize community in France. It is an interdenominational movement formed at the end of WWII to increase religious tolerance.
We will meet on the forth Tuesday and second Sunday of each month in the chapel. Most participants find the music and silence calming and very comforting. Everyone is welcome.
Silence makes us ready for a new meeting with God. In silence, God’s word can reach the hidden corners of our hearts. In silence, it proves to be "sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit" (Hebrews 4:12). In silence, we stop hiding before God, and the light of Christ can reach and heal and transform even what we are ashamed of. (from www.taize.fr)
