Wesley_Memorial_Gallery

photographic and painting exhibit featuring the "A Whim of a Decade" by local artist Kathy Stearns opened on February 10 for exhibit at Wesley Memorial Gallery and will continue until May 31,2013.

In this decade the artist has focused on "the happy", "the whimsy" and enjoyment of simple and seemingly repetitive tasks such as cutting paper with scissors. Drawing inspiration from classic literature, as well as natural and physical sciences, and just plain fun, Kathy has allowed creativity to guide her creations. In 2002 Ms. Stearns completed her undergraduate degree from Hobart William Smith Colleges in Studio Art. She completed her MALS in Leadership with the University of Findlay, and pursued other higher educational certifications.

A reception with the artist will take place at the Gallery on Sunday, April 14 from noon to 2:00 pm.

The Gallery, a member of the Fostoria Community Arts Council, is located at 1200 Van Buren St., Fostoria, Ohio in the narthex of Wesley United Methodist Church. The Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 500 pm and at other times by telephoning Wesley United Methodist Church at 419-435-855 1 and is handicapped accessible.

TURN OFF THE NOISE!

Taize Service at Maumee United Methodist to Focus on Peace during 2012
The monthly Taize Service will focus our scriptures and prayer toward peace throughout 2012. Taize features meditation and scripture that brings personal peace. It was developed to unite Christians so that the hatred that caused the Holocaust would not survive. The nightly news proves that hasn’t happened yet. This world needs prayer!. Join us on the second Sunday of each month in the chapel at 7pm.
Maumee United Methodist Taize service is held twice a month at 7PM. It is a time to listen and contemplate the scriptures. There are three periods of silence to allow us to wait and listen for God. The music and structure was developed by the Taize community in France. It is an interdenominational movement formed at the end of WWII to increase religious tolerance.
We will meet on the forth Tuesday and second  Sunday of each month in the chapel. Most participants find the music and silence calming and very comforting. Everyone is welcome.
Silence makes us ready for a new meeting with God. In silence, God’s word can reach the hidden corners of our hearts. In silence, it proves to be "sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit" (Hebrews 4:12). In silence, we stop hiding before God, and the light of Christ can reach and heal and transform even what we are ashamed of. (from www.taize.fr)

Cars for those in Need

REJOICE with us -- Good Works Transformation Station provided car # 101 this week.  That means 101 families donated cars to Good Works and 101 families from rural southeast Ohio have received a car and now have t r a n s p o r t a t i o n !!!!

In rural communities. transportation is the #1 issue that separates rural poverty from urban poverty.

As of today,  we have 1 car left and 160 people on the waiting list to volunteer their time to obtain a car. Some people wait patiently over a period of 2 years.  Click here for more...

Do you know someone who might consider donating a car to Good Works?  Would you be willing to ask a few friends you know if they know anyone?

Each donor receives the full IRS fair-market value as a tax deduction because we do not resell the vehicles.
