What do we know?
We know that not only are 1,078 children sold into the sexual slavery each year on average, but another 2,879 children are susceptible to sex trafficking. We know that the average age of a child that is first exposed to prostitution is 13. We know that 35% of Ohioans in the sex trade started before they were age 18. We know that Toledo, Ohio is the #4 ranked most dangerous city in the U.S. when it comes to human trafficking and the sex trade industry. We know that because of our proximity to Toledo and the I-75 and I-80/I-90 interchange children in our community are at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking.
What can we do?

2015 WOC GRANTS
The West Ohio Conference has posted the 2015 grant applications for Church Revitalization/Capacity Building, New Church Starts, and Hispanic/Latino ministries to the conference website
Revitalization Grants are provided to qualifying churches that are in the process of straitening specific plans for increasing fruitfulness and transformation.
If you're interested in developing a new congregation, consider a New Church Start Grant to help you more effectively make fully committed, mission minded, world changing disciples of Jesus Christ.
If you are a growing, dynamic and inclusive church responding to the opportunity presented by the increasing Hispanic/Latino population in your area, you may apply for a Hispanic/Latino Ministry Grant.
It is not necessary to attend a grant writing training session this year in order to apply for a grant. Instead, please be sure to review a webcast designed to answer any questions you may have pertaining to the Revitalization Grant or for the New Church Start Grant.
For questions about Hispanic/Latino Ministry Grants, please contact Rev. Karen Brantley at 614.844.6200. Churches applying for grants are expected to pay full apportions in 2014.
All grant applications must be reviewed and approved by the District Superintendent prior to submission. In order to help you have the best possible grant application, please submit your grant application to the Maumee Watershed District office by May 12, 2014 so we have sufficient time to review the application prior to final submission to the Conference, due June 1, 2104.
General questions regarding the grant and application process should be directed to Grace Gerber-Bennett at 800.437.0028.

Create in Me a Clean Heart
and Giving Program for 2014
In 2014, commit to a daily time of study, reflection, prayer, and giving during the season of Lent, the 40 days (plus seven Sundays) leading up to Easter, using devotional materials prepared by Society of St. Andrew.
Join with hundreds of congregations and thousands of individuals and families across the country and around the globe. Deepen your faith as you give to provide healthy food for our hungry brothers and sisters through the work of Society of St. Andrew during Lent, March 5-April 19, 2014.
Traditionally, Lent is a season of penitence, a time of asking God's forgiveness for our sins, and seeking a new way of life in Christ, day by day, as we approach the death of Jesus and look forward to his resurrection.
Our 2014 title is Create in Me a Clean Heart, a phrase from Psalm 51:10: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. In the devotional booklet, you will find daily meditations and prayers that explore the themes of forgiveness and new life in Christ, written by people of deep and abiding faith: pastors and laypersons from many Christian traditions.
Devotional booklets and coin banks are free, and may be ordered in quantity. You may also download a copy of the devotional booklet for your e-reader or sign up to receive each day's devotion by email.

Taize Service at Maumee United Methodist to Focus on Peace during 2012
The monthly Taize Service will focus our scriptures and prayer toward peace throughout 2012. Taize features meditation and scripture that brings personal peace. It was developed to unite Christians so that the hatred that caused the Holocaust would not survive. The nightly news proves that hasn’t happened yet. This world needs prayer!. Join us on the second Sunday of each month in the chapel at 7pm.
Maumee United Methodist Taize service is held twice a month at 7PM. It is a time to listen and contemplate the scriptures. There are three periods of silence to allow us to wait and listen for God. The music and structure was developed by the Taize community in France. It is an interdenominational movement formed at the end of WWII to increase religious tolerance.
We will meet on the forth Tuesday and second Sunday of each month in the chapel. Most participants find the music and silence calming and very comforting. Everyone is welcome.
Silence makes us ready for a new meeting with God. In silence, God’s word can reach the hidden corners of our hearts. In silence, it proves to be "sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit" (Hebrews 4:12). In silence, we stop hiding before God, and the light of Christ can reach and heal and transform even what we are ashamed of. (from www.taize.fr)

In rural communities. transportation is the #1 issue that separates rural poverty from urban poverty.

Do you know someone who might consider donating a car to Good Works? Would you be willing to ask a few friends you know if they know anyone?
Each donor receives the full IRS fair-market value as a tax deduction because we do not resell the vehicles.
