Freedom School this Summer

The Maumee Watershed District and Monroe Street UMC have partnered this Summer to provide an amazing opportunity for 50 children.

Thank you, Maumee Watershed District churches, laity and pastors for making this dream a happening!  Freedom School began on Monday with smooth sailing and lots of excitement. Check out some photos from week 1 on our Facebook page, here!

Monroe Street UMC cooked breakfast on Monday, which included 80 pieces of toast, scrambled eggs and fruit!  Harambee, chants, cheers and songs got the kids on their feet and excited for the day!  The kids went to reading classes with their Servant Leader Interns (SLIs) teachers, a great ratio of 10 kids to 1 teacher.  Suddenly, the morning was over! Our District United Methodist Men picked up hot meals from the Cherry Street Mission and during the afternoon, students from the Toledo School for the Arts came and taught art, dance, music, and theater!  Whew and wow!

Thank you to all the volunteers from many of our churches.  We can't name all of you, but we are grateful and appreciative. Toledo Zion, Maumee, Church of St. Andrew and Sylvania First are our 7am breakfast volunteers for this week! Up early for the kids.

We still have a need, and it's a big one! We need shoppers. Yes, shoppers who will shop for food at Gordon Food, or Sam's club, or wherever!  If this is your gift and calling, email erand [at] (Elizabeth Rand).
