Legislation Legislation

Legislation:

Tater needs your help:
SHORT CUT:
For those who insist, "JUST TELL ME WHAT TO DO!"
FOOD ASSISTANCE
CALL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS (ESPECIALLY OF THE FARM BILL CONFERENCE COMMITTEE *) VIA TOLL-FREE LINE 1-800-826-9624 (*). THANK MEMBERS FOR THE PROGRESS ON THE FARM BILL NUTRITION TITLE (H.R. 2419) AND URGE THEM TO FINISH PASSING A FARM BILL (H.R. 2954) WITH THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE NUTRITION TITLE. IT SHOULD INCLUDE BOOSTS IN FOOD STAMP BENEFIT LEVELS, IN FOOD STAMP ACCESS, AND IN PURCHASES IN THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TEFAP).
PAYDAY LENDING
URGE MEMBERS OF THE OHIO SENATE FINANCE AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS COMMITTEE (*) TO STAND FAST ON THE PAYDAY LENDING LEGISLATION (HB 545) FROM THEIR HOUSE COLLEAGUES HEADED THEIR WAY.  ENCOURAGE THEM TO RESIST MANEUVERS OF A HIGH-POWERED LENDERS' LOBBY TO DISSUADE THEM WITH THREATS OF JOB LOSSES OF THOSE WORKING FOR “CASH ADVANCE” STORES. REMIND THEM OF MUCH GREATER FINANCIAL LOSSES SUFFERED BY UNSUSPECTING AND OFTEN VULNERABLE CLIENTS DUE TO MANIPULATIVE BORROWING PRACTICES.

George "Tater" Jensen is our Hunger Relief Advocate in the West Ohio Conference.

2008 is the year of the potato - The Society of St. Andrew has become well know because of its Potato Project, which was started in 1983 and has helped untold thousands of hungry people by adding fresh, nutritious potatoes to their diets.  The United Nations has now proclaimed 2008 to be the International Year of the Potato.  Please click here to visit the Year of the Potato Web Site, and here to visit the Society of St. Andrew website.

Lord, we ask for those who are hungry, to provide bread and for those who have bread, provide a hunger for justice. Amen

We, the United Methodist Men, are looking for people who can drive a single axel box truck with a 5 speed manual transmission with a 2 speed rear. Does that sound mind boggleing? well, it isn't. Just ask Pastor Loran Mircale. He drove it all the way to Athens a year or so ago. The reason for this call to action is that, while Tater will be working to line up gleanings, He will not be available to drive truck this year. No, there is nothing wrong physically, but as Village Administrator of Luckey he is overseeing the sewer hook-up inspections which will keep him out of the fields but not off the phone. Thank God for cell-phones. If you are available please contact Tater at 419-494-5321 and give a helping hand.

UMM TRUCK UMM TRUCK

UMM Truck     UMM Truck Rear View

Here are a couple of pictures of the 2001 International Truck we were able to purchase with a grant from the Stranahan Foundation. It has only 184,000 miles on it and it is an automatic, so, prayfully we will have more people signing up to be drivers; and no, you do not need a CDL to drive it. It handles so much better than the 1986 model.

We pray God will provide a bountifull harvest of people to help glean as well as a bountifully harvest of food.  Please pray about this mission in your church to help feed the hungry in this country.

In His Service

Tater
