ICE Activity in Fremont, OH

Below is a correspondence from Rev. Alan Brown of Fremont Hayes UMC regarding last week’s ICE activity in the Fremont area and a plea for our churches to respond. Please read his message and prayerfully consider donating.

The U.S. Immigration Service raid at Corso’s Family and Garden Center in Castalia and Sandusky on Tuesday June 5, 2018 resulted in the detainment of 114 workers, left many children, including infants and toddlers, without one or both of their parents.

The childcare providers who were anticipating caring for the children while their parents were at work are now finding themselves caring for these children for an undetermined length of time. Many of the childcare providers are unable to access the child’s belongings and are in desperate need of basic items.

While there is a difference of opinion in our culture and many in our community may be divided on the appropriate approach to immigration laws/reform, the well-being of children is an important and essential issue.

Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, (nor any of the L.I.F.T. partner churches) is not entering into the middle of the debate on immigration in our country, rather as a result of this debate there are children who need food, water, shelter, clothing, and basic care items. Hayes Memorial UMC is committed to “Showing the unconditional love of Jesus to all people…”, this includes children. There are also reports of older children suddenly becoming financially responsible for multiple younger siblings, including paying for rent, utilities, and providing meals. Support of these children is crucial.

The Bridge of Hope Ministry (Puente De Esperanza) ad ministry of L.I.F.T. stands ready to assist these children. Donations can be received on: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursday from 10am-2pm.The following items are needed:
