Migrant Worker Welcome Basket

The Maumee Watershed District is assisting again in preparing welcome baskets (very large bowl, laundry basket or bucket) for our migrant neighbors coming into the greater Fremont area to work in the fields and orchards. The workers are beginning to arrive now and we'd like to collect 100 welcome baskets for these individuals and families by Friday, May 24! We will deliver them to The Bridge of Hope ministry on Tuesday, May 28. Bring them to the District office. (If you live east of Genoa, Oregon, Pemberville, Bradner, Wayne, or Fostoria: please take your welcome “baskets to Hayes Memorial UMC 1441 Fangboner Rd., Fremont and not the District office.)

PLEASE NOTE: A "welcome basket" is not an actual basket. We don’t need baskets, we need your items to be in containers that the migrant families can use.  Practical containers such as: a bucket, small laundry basket, very large bowl. Please no cute, fancy baskets--be practical.  Below is a list of items to purchase and put in each bucket, laundry basket or large bowl.

  • bottled water
  • shampoo
  • kids book
  • a welcome note
  • small bibles/church flyers
  • toothbrushes
  • toothpaste
  • bars of soap
  • wash clothes
  • snacks (cookie packs ,crackers, animal crackers, cheezits, etc)
  • toilet paper
